Aluminum pergola care is easier than most people expect. Your Azenco Outdoor pergola is built to handle sun, wind, and rain for years, and a little routine maintenance keeps it looking new and working the way it should. Here is the simple process we recommend.
Safety first: If your pergola has motorized louvers, lighting, or any electrical features, always disconnect the power before you start cleaning or maintenance.
Step-by-step aluminum pergola care
Disconnect the power
Before any maintenance, turn off and disconnect the power source to your pergola.
Gather your supplies
Having everything on hand makes the job quick. Gentle tools matter here, because harsh products can damage the aluminum finish.
- Garden hose or low-pressure washerNever use a high-pressure washer.
- Mild detergent made for aluminumSkip harsh chemicals.
- Microfiber mop or clothAvoid anything abrasive or scratchy.
- Soft sponge
- Bucket and water
- Marine grease
- Protective gloves
- LadderIf needed to reach the roof and beams.
-
Clear away debris
Remove leaves, dust, and dirt from every surface of the pergola, including the roof, beams, and posts.
Check the drainage
Azenco pergolas have a hidden gutter system that sends rainwater down through the posts when the louvers are closed. Clear any leaves or debris from the gutters, then make sure water flows freely through the posts so it does not collect.
Wash the surfaces
For everyday dirt and buildup, clean water with a microfiber cloth or soft sponge does the job. Rinse every cleaned surface thoroughly.
For a deeper clean, add a mild aluminum-safe detergent. If you use a pressure washer, keep it on a low-pressure setting.
Clean the caulking
To clean caulked seams, use one of these: hydrogen peroxide, a baking soda paste, or undiluted white vinegar. Scrub gently, then rinse well.
