From Ordinary to Extraordinary: How One Family Transformed Their Backyard with Julie Orr Design & Pergolas By Julie
When a busy family of four decided it was time to reimagine their outdoor space, they weren’t just looking for a simple upgrade—they wanted a complete lifestyle transformation. With two active kids and a love for entertaining, their backyard needed to function as a place to relax, gather, dine, and play… all while feeling like a true extension of their home.
In Sunnyvale, the perfect solution for this transformation is a stunning pergola design sunnyvale that complements their lifestyle and enhances their outdoor experience.
That’s when they partnered with Julie Orr Design and Pergolas By Julie—a collaboration that brought together high-end design vision and best-in-class outdoor structures.
The Vision
The family’s original backyard was underutilized: a patchy lawn, minimal shade, and no real flow. Their goal was to create:
- A cohesive, beautifully designed outdoor living space
- Defined zones for dining, lounging, and play
- Year-round usability
- A structure that added both function and architectural interest
By working with both Julie Orr Design and Pergolas By Julie, they got the best of both worlds: a thoughtfully curated landscape plan and a premium pergola system that elevated the entire space.
With their new pergola design sunnyvale, the outdoor space truly became a family haven.

Why They Chose an Azenco Pergola
Not all pergolas are created equal—and this family quickly realized that investing in a premium system would make all the difference.

Clean lines and a high-end finish elevate the entire backyard aesthetic. - Durable Aluminum Construction
Rust-proof, low-maintenance, and built to withstand harsh weather conditions. - Optional LED Lighting & Accessories
Extend usability into the evening with integrated lighting, heaters, and screens. - Smart Home Integration
Control your pergola remotely or automate it based on weather conditions. - Insulated Roof Options (R-Shade)
For those wanting full coverage and temperature control, the insulated panels provide superior comfort.
Why Other Pergola Companies Fall Short
The family explored several options before choosing Azenco—and the differences were clear:
- Limited Functionality
Many competitors offer fixed or manual systems with little flexibility. - No True Weather Protection
Cheaper pergolas often don’t fully seal, making them unusable in rain. - Inferior Materials
Wood or low-grade aluminum systems require more maintenance and don’t last as long. - Lack of Integration
Few systems offer built-in lighting, drainage, and smart controls in one cohesive design. - Basic Aesthetics
Other pergolas can feel bulky or outdated, lacking the architectural appeal of Azenco.
The Result
The finished space is nothing short of stunning.
It’s a perfect example of pergola design sunnyvale that enhances both functionality and beauty.
